Praise as a Weapon of Warfare
Scripture Focus: Psalm 68:1-3, Psalm 18:1-3, 2 Chronicles 20:20-25
Introduction: The Reality of Constant War
From the moment you were conceived in your mother’s womb, you entered a constant, unyielding war between light and darkness. Life is not a competition; it is a war where the winner takes all and the loser loses all.
Many of us are fighting battles we know nothing about—generational battles, environmental battles, and health battles. But I have good news for you: you do not have to fight these battles with human strength. The surest, fastest, and most guaranteed way to secure total victory is to transfer your battles to the Almighty God. You do this through radical, unashamed praise.
1. What is Praise? It is Boasting About Your Father
Praise is not just a musical interlude before the sermon; praise is when you are actively boasting about your Father. When you praise Him, you are reminding Him of who He is and what He has done before, which moves Him to repeat it.
- When you boast about the One who is the Highest, He promotes you above your enemies.
- When you boast about the Almighty, you acknowledge He can solve any problem.
- When you boast about the Maker of Heaven, He opens the windows of heaven over your life.
- When you boast about the Creator of the Earth, He commands the earth to open up and swallow your stubborn mockers.
God cannot clap for Himself, and He cannot bow down to Himself. Praise is the only “food” the Creator demands from His creation, and it is the one thing He cannot say “no” to.
2. Praise Secures the Greatest Asset: Divine Presence
Why is praise so dangerous to the kingdom of darkness? The Bible says in Psalm 22:3 that God inhabits—He sits down, makes His home, and dwells in—the praises of His people.
When you pray, God sends an angel. When you fasted, He may send a word. But when you praise, God does not delegate the assignment; He packs up His throne and descends into your situation Himself. Divine presence is your greatest asset because when God arrives, every obstacle, every mountain of debt, and every cancer cell must melt like wax.
3. The Law of Continuous Victory
A dangerous mistake many Christians make is ingratitude. They receive a miracle, cross their “Red Sea,” and then keep quiet.
Praising God for past victories is what guarantees your security in future battles. The children of Israel sang and praised God after crossing the Red Sea in Exodus 15. Because their praise was loud and fresh, when they faced their next battle of survival in the wilderness, God was already right there to intervene. Look at King David—he resolved to praise the Lord at all times, and as a result, he never lost a single battle in his entire life. If you don’t thank Him for yesterday’s victory, who will you run to when tomorrow’s storm hits?
4. Radical Praise Breaks Radical Chains
You must learn the secret of offering a “sacrifice of praise” in times of severe crisis. It is easy to sing when your pocket is full and your body is healthy. But can you praise Him when you are locked down in a spiritual or physical prison?
Consider Paul and Silas in Acts 16. They were beaten, bleeding, and thrown into the innermost dungeon. They didn’t complain or compile a prayer list of grievances. At midnight, they turned their prison into a worship center. They praised God so loudly that other prisoners heard them. What happened? God stood up. When the heavy foot of God hit the earth, an earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, the doors flew open, every yoke was broken, and their jailer became their servant.
Conclusion & Alter Call: Praise is for the Living
The Bible says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” If you can breathe today without a machine, you have a multi-million naira reason to shout Hallelujah. Dead men do not speak, and dead men cannot shout praises.
If prayer seems to have delayed, try praise. If you want God to arise right now and scatter the enemies plotting your downfall, lift your hands and offer Him a loud, unashamed shout of praise.
